Holiday Guide to Chamonix

Located in the mountainous Rhone- Alps region, the beautiful town of
Chamonix is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday. The town is primarily a hotspot for winter sports such as skiing but there are a number of other exciting visitor attractions suitable for any type of holiday. It is also the perfect location all year round with warm weather in summer and a high level of snow in winter suitable for many different types of activity.

The town ,which forms part of the Charmonix-Mont-Blanc commune along with sixteen other small villages, is situated on the peak of Mont Blanc and is the perfect location for mountain sports. These sports include skiing and snowboarding during winter with a number of dedicated trails and over four different lifts as well as services such as equipment hire.

During the summer activities such as hiking, climbing ,mountain biking and paragliding are available but the area is also popular for water sports including white water rafting. These activities are mostly suitable for experienced individuals but there are also fun  activities for beginners as well as options for sports such as golf and tennis.
For less extreme attractions there is a breathtaking cable car which takes visitors to a stunning panorama of the Alps.

There is also a mountain railway passing through the Mer De Glace as well as a mountain tramway which provides exciting views as well as an opportunity to start many of the mountain walking trails

In terms of accommodation there are number of options both in and around Chamonix .Visitors can stay in hotels, hostels, Bed and Breakfast's ,chalets as well as campsites. The majority of the accommodation is located within Chamonix but there is also accommodation available further up the mountain and within the forest meaning you can be close to nature.

There are also a wide range of choice for eating and drinking within Chamonix. For self catering visitors there are several supermarkets as well as small greengrocers stores where provisions for camping and sporting activities can also be purchased. If there are no self catering facilities available then there are a wide range of local restaurants serving delicious regional cuisine such as fondue.

Whether you choose to enjoy one of the many sports on offer or just want to relax Charmonix is an excellent destination but is also perfect for exploring the rest of France. For day trips there are a number of excellent towns and cities located nearby including Laussane and Lyon but there are also train links from cities such as Paris meaning you can take a daytrip from a number of the hotels in Paris
