Was it really 30 years ago that I did a recording on the French ski resort of Flaine to exhibit on our stand at the Daily Mail Ski Show in London? Jeez time flies. I remember saying clearly, in my best macho voice, "Flaine is for skiers, all kinds of skiers".
This in spite of the fact that at that time I had never skied the French ski resort.
Is this still the case today? Er, yes, and in spades! Flaine is now what they call in French, a "Grand Massif". And even the one is a Canadian, and even tho one has studied French in school and used it in Europe, I still have no real idea what that phrase means, exactly. However I do get the big picture and really, so should you, dear reader. Flaine as French ski resorts go, is one hell of a Grand Massif. Just look at this info if your don't want to believe me. According to the official web site, Grand Massif means big ski area. Well I for one beg to differ but once again we get the picture, and big it is; The Grand Massif ski area boasts a 265 kms. of linked and prepared runs, connecting Flaine with the resorts of Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt Fer-à-Cheval.
There are 52 runs in Flaine and a total of 133 if one includes the Grand Massif, and brother if you do not find something for all kinds of skiers here I do not know where you will. The height of the ski resort is 1,600 meters and the highest skiable point is 2500 meters.

As a car free village, Flaine is remarkably pollution free. Free and not so free car parking is available at the outskirts of every resort and transport is available to your accommodation. Geneva is the best airport regular shuttle services will get you to the resort. The whie motorway from Geneva to The Mont Blanc Tunnel or Chamonix in France can get you there easily by car.
