Born in 1992 for the athletes of the Albertville Olympics. The ‘hamlet in the forest' has grown up into a delightful resort with none of the pretentiousness of Courchevel or the boisterousness of Meribel, just a well-priced base to explore the three valleys. The resort is compact and concentrated in one area with
most of the chalets nestling above in the trees between the 2 main runs home. Although at 1350m, the trees provide excellent protection for the north facing Folyeres blue run, cold enough for man-made snow well into April in the last 2 seasons. Not being able to ski home is rarely an issue here.
On the mountain
Most of the apres ski centres around the ‘Ski Lodge',
which caters to pretty much all needs from football to
good pub food to rocking live music depending on the
time of day.
A very chalet ‘centric' resort there is not
massive demand for restaurants although food is good in
the few that are there. As neither Courchevel nor
Meribel are very far away they are both viable ‘big
night out' options. Non-skiers will find La Tania a bit
limiting.
