The skiing in the Three Valleys has to be skied to be appreciated. With
over 600km of prepared slopes it is a safe bet that there is something
for every standard. From absolute beginners to the most "gung ho" expert
there is scope for everyone. Off piste skiers will find lots of
opportunity here too, as the wide open slopes often leave plenty of
untracked powder pockets. One can ski for days on the slopes included in
the Three Valleys lift pass, and not ski the same area twice. It is
worth noting that it matters not one bit where you choose to make your
headquarters.
The skiing is that accessible. Each village has it's own lift
pass, each its own ski school, and each its own selection of
non ski activities. As these resorts are high, (Val Thorens for
example is the highest resort in Europe) the chance of getting
decent snow conditions are good. Spring skiing is very popular
here, and the glacier at Val Thorens ensures good snow and plenty
of sunshine. You will find the ski schools in the Three Valleys
pretty creative with courses in just about every type of skiing
program. Your instructor draws up a daily schedule depending
upon the weather.
This is for good skiers only, and enables the "punter" to explore the
areas of the Three Valleys in areas where it is not advisable to go
alone. There is no way we can describe all the skiing in the space
available. Go and discover for yourself. You will not find the Three
Valleys a cheap destination. This accounts for the large amount of
people who choose Chalet Holidays for their trip here. Myself though I
prefer the comfort and convenience of a good hotel. What the heck, a
holiday should be something to treasure.
The night life
varies with the resorts, but "ravers" might find it
a little quiet. However if you are part of a group, or can find
a group to make yourself part of, you'll find some action. A
lot of the accommodation is in Chalets and apartments. If you
opt for this style holiday you can get yourself a pretty good
price. Hotels prices are in line with the other good resorts
of the French Alps. To reach the Three Valleys find Moutiers.
This is just after Albertville. Geneva is your best airport.
